Workplace injuries can happen any time. But as one study has revealed, these accidents are more likely to happen at night. A study at Princeton University looked at workers’ compensation claims that had been filed in a particular state and studied the time of day that the incidents had taken place. It showed that more employees are injured during night shifts and off hours.
According to the study, the risk of injuries is low during 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., which is the typical workday shift. But if an employee is working outside of these hours, the chance of injury increases significantly. The study revealed that the majority of accidents happen during the night shift. Additionally, the study indicated that blue-collar jobs are inherently more dangerous. While white-collar jobs are typically over by 5 p.m., blue-collar jobs can extend well into the late-night hours.
The researcher pointed out that employers should take these findings into consideration. He said that employers should consider the shift length and the time of the shifts on their schedule. Workers who are forced to work multiple late-night shifts might be more prone to accidents. As a result, they’re more likely to take leave and file for a worker’s comp claim.
What should you do if you’re injured at work?
If you’re working during the night shift, you might be more prone to work place accidents, especially if you’re not used to working such shifts. An attorney may be able to help you secure compensation so that you can make up for lost wages and pay your medical bills. Additionally, your attorney may help protect you from retaliation from your employer.
